America's Panfish Marathon on Black Lake

Those looking for a family friendly marathon can expect a memorable experience with big prizes on Black Lake.

The Panfish Marathon is through Oct. 11, and the rules are simple: each participant must register for a badge at one of several host businesses along the Lake before going out to fish.

“There are 300 fish in Black Lake with tags on them. Each number represents a prize, amounting to $85,000 if all are caught,” noted Bill Dashnaw, Director of the Black Lake Chamber of Commerce. “There are multiple Check-In Stations around the lake, and the tagged panfish must be brought in alive to redeem the corresponding prize.”

The Black Lake Panfish Marathon is a season long tournament, welcoming locals and visitors to experience the great quality fishing on the lake, while supporting the businesses that make Black Lake a unique destination.

The 2022 event is being hosted by the Black Lake Chamber of Commerce and St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.

It is part of a series of tournaments supported by a Market New York grant from I LOVE NY/New York State’s Division of Tourism through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.
