Angling Aids

A number of aids can assist anglers who are planning trips to St. Lawrence County.  One such aid is the county highway map.  This colorful map can be extremely valuable in locating access to trout flows and remote ponds.  In addition, it is helpful for planning float trips on the county’s small rivers.  Among the map’s special features are the locations of all public lands.  For a small fee, the St. Lawrence County Highway Map is available from the Highway Department at (315) 379-1542.

DEC offers a number of free publications related to fishing county waters.  Those publications are “Fishing the St. Lawrence River,” “Fishing/Canoeing the Oswegatchie River,” “Fishing and Canoeing the Grasse River,” “The Raquette River,” “Fishing and Canoeing the Indian River,” “Bog River Flow,” “Inland Trout Fishing in Region Six,” “Fishing the Indian River Lakes,” “Trails in the Cranberry Lake Region,” “Tooley Pond Tract,” and “Massawepie Conservation Easement.”  These publications are available at DEC Region Six Headquarters in Watertown (315) 785-2261.

Anglers will also find information at the DEC website, www.dec.state.ny.us.  The site contains up-to-date stockings for county waters as well as contour maps of lakes.
