What is FISHCAP?

FISHCAP is an exciting initiative designed to lure anglers from all over the world to St. Lawrence County, New York, USA and the St. Lawrence River Valley - an angler's paradise where almost every species of freshwater fish can be found.

Spearheaded by St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director Pat McKeown and Town of Massena Supervisor Joseph D. Gray, the FISHCAP program is coordinated by noted angler and PBS star Don Meissner. Projects from fishing tournaments to public outreach programs are developed to highlight the “nowhere-else” nature of fishing the St. Lawrence River, its tributaries, and the more than 200 lakes, ponds and streams that are part of the region’s watershed.

FISHCAP has received outstanding support from the public and private sectors. Our partners to date include the Town of Massena, Alcoa Foundation, North Country Savings Bank, the St. Lawrence County IDA (Industrial Development Agency), Corning Foundation, the RVRDA (St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency), the Town of Brasher, the City of Ogdensburg, and the Town of Waddington.

The FISHCAP Advisory Board includes community leaders as well as local fishing experts.
